Job Summary
A 4th Engineer is responsible for assisting the Chief Engineer in maintaining the engine room and other mechanical equipment on a vessel, ensuring that all systems are operational and running smoothly. They are also involved in the operation and maintenance of propulsion engines, auxiliary motors, and other mechanical equipment on board.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Chief Engineer in the day-to-day operation and maintenance of all machinery and equipment in the engine room
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on engines, generators, pumps, and other machinery as directed by the Chief Engineer
- Monitor and log engine room performance and report any issues or abnormalities to the Chief Engineer
- Participate in emergency drills and respond to any engine room emergencies as needed
- Follow all safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for all crew members
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering or related field
- Valid 4th Class Engineer License issued by the relevant maritime authority
- Previous experience as a Junior Engineer or equivalent role on board a vessel
- Strong knowledge of marine engineering systems, equipment, and procedures
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work well under pressure
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects and work in confined spaces
- Able to work at heights and in all weather conditions
- Good physical condition and stamina to handle the demands of the job
