Job Summary
We are looking for a 1st Engineer to join our Maritime team and work in the engine room, monitoring all systems related to engine performance. The ideal candidate has excellent problem-solving abilities and an appreciation for the safety of the vessel. The 1st Engineer ensures that engines, boilers, generators, pumps, and other machinery are properly functioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect and monitor the maintenance and repair of engines, boilers, pumps, and other related equipment
- Supervise and provide guidance to lower level engineers and mechanics
- Conduct routine preventative maintenance as required
- Develop and maintain accurate documentation and logs of all engine activities
- Communicate effectively with the Chief Engineer and other members of the engineering team
- Take action to address any engine-related issues promptly
- Ensure that safety protocols are strictly followed
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a 1st Engineer or Chief Engineer on a marine vessel
- Thorough knowledge of engine systems, including all types of propulsion engines
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time
- Ability to climb ladders and perform tasks in confined spaces
